Barbeque season is just around the corner, so we’ve put together a very simple and eco-friendly guide on how to clean your BBQ using everyday household items.
Now although cleaning your BBQ is not be very exciting, keeping your barbecue nice and clean is absolutely key to ensuring that your food tastes delicious and more importantly, is safe to eat.
During BBQ season, we highly recommend that you clean your BBQ at least once a month. It’s always a good idea to clean your BBQ grill as soon as possible after using it. Just follow the simple steps below and you’ll be on your way to a tasty garden cook-off in no time!
What you will need: Lemon halves, salt, BBQ fork (or any fork really), a plate, water, water hose, dishwashing liquid, empty spray bottle, cloth (microfiber is best).
Cleaning the grill grate
Step 1: Heat the grill until it’s hot, very hot! Then let it sit for a couple of minutes so that any food particles burn down.
Step 2: Pierce one of the lemon halves with the BBQ fork (making sure the cut side is face down).
Step 3: Pour salt into the plate and dip the cut side of the lemon in the salt.
Step 4: Rub the lemon all over the hot grill surface and apply pressure to help remove tough build up. Replace the lemon halves and repeat.
Step 5: Let the grill cool down completely. Remove the grill grate and rinse with the water hose, thoroughly! This should hopefully leave your BBQ grill nice and clean.
Cleaning the Grill Exterior
Step 1: Fill up the spray bottle with washing up liquid and hot water and shake the bottle to mix the two together. Spray the grill exterior avoiding and wooden parts such as handles.
Step 2: Wipe down the soapy grill exterior with a microfiber cloth, then use a dry cloth to dry and remove streaks and you’re done!
